Intervention Class: Academy of MATH (AoM)
Academy of MATH (AoM) is a research-based, individualized, at-school, online math intervention program used by the Elkhorn Area School District. It determines areas in which the student needs improvement and provides focused activities so the student can make gains in those math skill areas.
Students are selected for this specialized intervention program based upon math MAP scores and AIMSweb benchmarking. Math Intervention Class is scheduled replacing Allied Arts. After 12 weeks (two terms) assessment occurs to determine continuation or exiting the program.
Students are awarded certificates when mastery of the math skills is achieved. When students have completed an entire Level, they receive a special certificate and affix a selected sticker to display on the classroom bulletin board! Also, each child has a 3-ring binder kept in the classroom which has record-keeping, reference material, and notes/journal entries that is used as a math resource. Please remind your child to use the following “Best Practices”: Bring your chromebook, charger, ear buds/headphones, and pencil with eraser; Be an active listener during Lesson Tutorials – take notes, including terms and definitions; Do not click out of Training Puzzles – the timing element is a way to measure proficiency; Ask questions and get help right away when working on Academy of MATH.
